ICC can't junk cases without hearing complainant: HC
Monday, 17 February 2025 Calcutta HC mandates a reinvestigation of a six-year-old sexual harassment complaint at Hiralal Mazumdar Memorial College for Women, insisting that the internal complaints committee must hear the complainant. The court criticized the dismissal resolution for violating natural justice principles and ordered proceedings be completed within 12 weeks.
Murshidabad in West Bengal witnessed violent clashes on April 14, 2025, resulting in three deaths linked to protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025. West Bengal Police have arrested 150 people, and additional security forces have been deployed in affected areas like Samserganj, Dhuliyan, and Suti. BJP MP Jyotirmay Singh Mahato has written to Amit Shah, requesting the imposition of AFSPA in four districts. The Calcutta High Court has also ordered the immediate deployment of central forces in Murshidabad to restore peace.
