A deadly 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan near Jalalabad, leaving hundreds feared dead and entire communities trapped under rubble. The quake hit shortly after midnight, followed by powerful aftershocks between 4.0 and 5.0 magnitudes that deepened the crisis. Rescue operations are underway but face severe challenges due to mountainous terrain and collapsed roads. Afghanistan’s location on the Indian–Eurasian fault line makes it one of the world’s most vulnerable regions to deadly quakes.
