New York Governor Kathy Hochul has identified lone wolves as the "greatest threat" to July 4th events, announcing an increased presence of State Police and the deployment of National Guard units at major transportation hubs, bridges, and tunnels throughout New York City. Authorities are also closely monitoring social media for any signs of cyber threats or domestic terror plots.
The threat is not limited to New York. An FBI bulletin has specifically warned that San Francisco's famous fireworks show could be a target for a mass casualty attack. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has officially raised the national threat level to "Heightened" and stated it will remain in effect until September 22, citing the direct link to the escalating conflict between Iran and the U.S. While no specific or credible plots have been identified, federal and state agencies remain on high alert to counter any security situation that may arise during the holiday.
