Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed General Mykola Oleshchuk from his position as head of the Ukrainian Air Force following a public dispute related to a fatal F-16 jet crash.
The incident, which resulted in the death of pilot Aleksey ‘Moonfish’ Mes, has ignited a heated controversy between Oleshchuk and MP Mariana Bezuglaya from Zelenskyy’s ruling Servant of the People party.
Bezuglaya claimed that the jet was accidentally downed by a US-donated Patriot air defence system, a statement Oleshchuk vehemently denied, accusing her of undermining the military and aiding Russian propaganda.
US President Donald Trump has claimed Ukraine could be “crushed very shortly” unless it agrees to peace talks with Russia. In an interview with The Atlantic, Trump said he’s trying to save Ukraine by pushing for negotiations, suggesting Moscow is open to a deal. He criticized Kiev’s stance, especially on Crimea, and hinted Zelensky was tougher to negotiate with than Putin. Meanwhile, Vice President Vance echoed similar concerns, and Secretary of State Rubio warned of the US abandoning talks if delays persist. Trump is also seeking a minerals agreement with Ukraine.
