Jungles cleared of Maoists but 'urban Naxals' a threat: PM Modi
Thursday, 6 March 2025 PM Narendra Modi stated that while government efforts have significantly reduced Naxalism in rural areas, the threat of urban Naxals is increasing with their infiltration into political parties. He emphasized India's rapid economic growth and notable accomplishments in poverty reduction, infrastructure development, and the defense and startup sectors.
Chhattisgarh Naxal Encounter: In a major anti-Naxal operation, security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bastar division neutralized 22 Maoists in two separate encounters. The first gunfight took place in the dense forests along the Bijapur-Dantewada border, where 18 Maoists were killed. Another encounter in Kanker district led to the elimination of four more insurgents. A District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawan was injured in the operation. Weapons and explosives were recovered from the sites. Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed the success, reaffirming the government's commitment to a ‘Naxal-Mukt Bharat’ (Naxal-free India).
