8 cops killed as Maoists set off 70kg IED blast in Bastar
Monday, 6 January 2025 Eight Chhattisgarh police constables and a driver lost their lives in Bijapur district after Maoists detonated a 70kg IED. The DRG team was attacked while returning from a successful operation against Maoists. The IED explosion was so powerful that it created an 8-10 feet deep crater, scattering bodies and vehicle debris.
Chhattisgarh Naxal Encounter: In a major anti-Naxal operation, security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bastar division neutralized 22 Maoists in two separate encounters. The first gunfight took place in the dense forests along the Bijapur-Dantewada border, where 18 Maoists were killed. Another encounter in Kanker district led to the elimination of four more insurgents. A District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawan was injured in the operation. Weapons and explosives were recovered from the sites. Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed the success, reaffirming the government's commitment to a ‘Naxal-Mukt Bharat’ (Naxal-free India).
