4 days before Maharashtra polls, 5 Maoists killed in fierce encounter close to border
Saturday, 16 November 2024 Five Maoists, including two women, were killed in a daylong encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bastar region. Two jawans were also injured in the gunfight. The encounter took place in a jungle on the border of Kanker and Narayanpur districts, close to the Maharashtra border. Security personnel recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from the encounter site.
Chhattisgarh Naxal Encounter: In a major anti-Naxal operation, security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bastar division neutralized 22 Maoists in two separate encounters. The first gunfight took place in the dense forests along the Bijapur-Dantewada border, where 18 Maoists were killed. Another encounter in Kanker district led to the elimination of four more insurgents. A District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawan was injured in the operation. Weapons and explosives were recovered from the sites. Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed the success, reaffirming the government's commitment to a ‘Naxal-Mukt Bharat’ (Naxal-free India).
