Zack Polanski has been elected as the new leader of the Green Party of England and Wales following a national ballot of members. Returning Officer Stewart Christie confirmed the London Assembly member received 20,411 votes in a national ballot, beating off a rival joint bid by Green MPs Ellie Chowns and Adrian Ramsay – who secured 3,705 votes. A criminal who shot dead the prison officer who found an illicit phone in his jail cell has been jailed for life with a minimum 45 years before parole.
