India has slammed the European Union's latest round of sanctions that target Nayara Energy’s Gujarat-based Vadinar refinery for its links to Russian oil giant Rosneft.
As part of its 14th package of sanctions, the EU blacklisted 105 additional vessels and took aim at Nayara — the first Indian entity to face such direct action.
Brussels aims to throttle Moscow’s wartime funding, but New Delhi has accused the EU of "double standards" and reiterated its stance against unilateral sanctions.
Nayara, heavily reliant on export markets in Europe and Africa, now faces disruptions, job threats, and uncertainty over Rosneft’s $20B stalled exit plan involving Reliance.
India says it remains committed to its legal obligations but won’t compromise on energy security.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has vowed to block the EU’s new budget plan, refusing to support additional funding for Ukraine’s war effort. Orbán slammed the proposal as a “budget of hopelessness,” arguing it would harm European farmers, blackmail Hungary, and waste resources on a conflict Ukraine cannot win. He warned that 20–25% of the EU’s upcoming budget would directly go to Ukraine, leaving Europe weaker and divided. As Brussels pushes for unity, Orbán insists Ukraine should remain a partner, not a full EU member.

Fresh controversy has erupted over the fatal Air India crash in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad last month. A Wall Street Journal report claims a cockpit recording reveals the captain cut off the aircraft’s fuel midair, moments after takeoff. The first officer, reportedly panicked, questioned the captain’s move, as per the leaked cockpit transcript. Both pilots, Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kunder, were killed along with 240 others onboard and 19 on the ground—only one person survived.
