Fresh controversy has erupted over the fatal Air India crash in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad last month. A Wall Street Journal report claims a cockpit recording reveals the captain cut off the aircraft’s fuel midair, moments after takeoff. The first officer, reportedly panicked, questioned the captain’s move, as per the leaked cockpit transcript. Both pilots, Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kunder, were killed along with 240 others onboard and 19 on the ground—only one person survived. While the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau's (AIIB) preliminary report confirms both fuel switches were turned off within a second, it doesn’t state whether the action was accidental or deliberate. India’s Civil Aviation Minister urged restraint, saying no conclusions should be drawn yet. The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has strongly condemned the US media report, calling it speculative and harmful. Meanwhile, Air India completed checks on the Fuel Control Switches in all Boeing 787s with no issues found.

A chilling preliminary report by India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) confirms that both engines of Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner shut down seconds after takeoff from Ahmedabad on June 12, killing at least 270 people. The aircraft was airborne for just 32 seconds before slamming into buildings near BJ Medical College. Crucially, cockpit recordings capture a moment of confusion: one pilot asks, “Why did you cut off?” to which the other replies, “I didn’t.” Investigators found both fuel control switches had flipped from ‘RUN’ to ‘CUTOFF’, triggering total engine failure. The RAT deployed, signaling power loss, and the plane began a rapid descent. Despite efforts to restart, only one engine partially responded. Sabotage is ruled out, but scrutiny now falls on a 2018 FAA advisory and maintenance history. The probe will focus on whether faulty switches or human error led to one of India’s deadliest aviation disasters.

In an exclusive ground report from New Delhi, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has revealed crucial details about the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash that claimed multiple lives. The Minister confirmed that the flight, carrying 242 passengers, issued a mayday signal moments after takeoff before losing contact with air traffic control. The aircraft, which had flown from Paris to Delhi and onward to Ahmedabad, crashed just 2 km from the airport in Medhani Nagar. A high-level independent probe has been launched, with the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) examining the technical causes. The black box has been recovered, and DNA testing is underway to identify victims.
