Ukrainian General Mykhailo Drapatyi has resigned after a deadly Russian missile strike on June 1 hit the 239th Polygon training base near Dnipro, killing 12 and wounding 60 young conscripts.
Drapatyi confirmed the site was previously targeted in March and demanded accountability for any negligence.
Ukraine’s military is investigating possible command errors that led to the tragedy.
With growing Russian focus on Ukrainian training grounds, the incident marks one of the deadliest in recent months, prompting public outrage and scrutiny.
Vladimir Putin has accused Ukraine of “resorting to terrorism,” blaming President Zelensky for deadly attacks on civilians, including a bridge blast and train derailment that killed seven and injured over 100. Calling the Kyiv government a “terrorist organization,” Putin rejected Ukraine’s proposed 30-day ceasefire, alleging it would allow rearmament. Moscow claims Kyiv’s sabotage aims to derail peace talks in Istanbul. Despite tensions, both sides agreed to begin a prisoner exchange between June 7–9, even as accusations deepen the diplomatic crisis.
