A massive power outage struck southeastern France on Saturday, leaving around 160,000 households in the Alpes-Maritimes department without electricity. The blackout came just hours after a fire at an electrical substation near Cannes had weakened the grid, creating a perfect storm of disruption.
The outage impacted the Cannes Film Festival, briefly halting screenings at some venues and causing traffic chaos as traffic lights failed in Cannes and nearby Antibes. Festival organizers confirmed that the Palais des Festivals switched to an independent power supply and assured that all scheduled events, including the prestigious Closing Ceremony, would proceed as planned.
