Home Office minister Dame Angela Eagle insists the government is “beginning to get a grip on the chaos” it inherited by increasing processing by 52% in the last three months of 2024.

More than 108,000 people applied for asylum in the UK last year - the highest number for any 12-month period since current records began in 2001, figures show.
