UK and US not ‘heading in two directions’ over Ukraine
Security Minister Dan Jarvis says he doesn’t think the UK and US are “heading in two directions” over their pursuit of peace between Ukraine and Russia.
The Home Office has also announced a new package of sanctions which will see Russian “elites” with links to the Kremlin prevented from entering the UK.
Former President Trump has issued a stark warning to Russia: agree to a Ukraine ceasefire within 10 days or face sweeping new sanctions. He hinted at harsh secondary sanctions and tariffs targeting Russia’s already struggling economy. Despite the threat, Russia's Foreign Minister Lavrov mocked the move, claiming Moscow isn’t worried. Analysts say sanctions could slash Russia’s GDP by another 3–5% annually and hit energy exports hard. As the U.S. raises pressure, the question remains—will Putin yield, or is Trump making empty threats?

Russia has unveiled the ‘Posokh,’ a portable, ytterbium-based laser air defense system capable of disabling Ukrainian drones within a 2 km range using invisible laser beams. The announcement follows successful tests and comes as Russia escalates airstrikes on Ukraine. On July 28, a drone and missile barrage hit Kyiv, injuring eight civilians, including a child.
