The first country to usher in the New Year is Kiritimati Island, also known as Christmas Island, located in the Republic of Kiribati.
Positioned in the UTC+14 time zone, this island will lead the world in celebrations.
Following closely are Tonga and the Chatham Islands in New Zealand, continuing the wave of festivities across the Pacific.
Meanwhile, at the other end of the time zone spectrum, Baker Island and Howland Island—uninhabited territories near the US—will be the last to greet 2025, as they fall under the UTC-12 time zone.
A massive 8.7 magnitude earthquake off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula has triggered a powerful tsunami, with waves reaching up to 13 feet in Severo-Kurilsk. The Pacific-wide alert spans Japan, the U.S. West Coast, Hawaii, and several island nations. Residents in coastal areas are evacuating amid rising panic.
