President Donald Trump has admitted that new U.S. sanctions on Russia might not have any effect on Vladimir Putin â but is moving ahead with them anyway. Trump slashed the peace window for a Ukraine deal from 50 days to just 10, warning of brutal economic penalties if Moscow doesn't comply. These include up to 100% tariffs and potential secondary sanctions on countries doing business with Russia.
While Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov downplayed the threats, saying Russia has developed âsanctions immunity,â Trumpâs frustration is mounting. The president also announced that special envoy Steve Witkoff will soon travel to Russia following visits to Israel and Gaza. Trumpâs acting UN envoy confirmed a ceasefire deadline: August 8. Despite over 10,000 sanctions already in place since the 2014 Ukraine crisis, Putin maintains the West has failed to break Russiaâs economy. The standoff is reaching a boiling point.
