Bangladesh finds itself in the throes of turmoil following the sudden resignation and escape of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina earlier this week.
As the political vacuum deepens, violence has surged, with minority communities, particularly Hindus, bearing the brunt of the unrest.
In the heart of Dhaka, hundreds took to the streets to protest the escalating attacks on minority groups, chanting "Who are we, Bengali Bengali" in a desperate plea for peace and unity.
The demonstrators, blocking a major intersection in the city, carried posters and placards demanding immediate action to protect the vulnerable Hindu population.
Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been sentenced to six months in jail by the International Crimes Tribunal for contempt of court. The verdict comes after a leaked audio call revealed Hasina allegedly mocking the judiciary and referencing a “license to kill” 227 people during the 2024 protests. The sentencing marks the first official ruling since her ouster and escape last year following mass student-led demonstrations. Former student leader Shamil Bulbul was also sentenced to two months.
