As Sheikh Hasina Continues to stay in India, questions are looming over her future.
We talked today with Senior Journalist Nabanita Sircar from London discusses Sheikh Hasina’s struggle to gain entry to the UK despite her sister's citizenship, questioning why Hasina is denied while others with human rights issues have entered.
She also explores alternative options if the UK rejects Hasina, including moving to Finland or the U.S., where her extended family resides, or leveraging India's support as she currently remains there.
Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been sentenced to six months in jail by the International Crimes Tribunal for contempt of court. The verdict comes after a leaked audio call revealed Hasina allegedly mocking the judiciary and referencing a “license to kill” 227 people during the 2024 protests. The sentencing marks the first official ruling since her ouster and escape last year following mass student-led demonstrations. Former student leader Shamil Bulbul was also sentenced to two months. Defense lawyers call the charges politically motivated, while prosecutors hint at more charges to come.
