Zelensky Accepts Defeat to Putin? Top Commander Allegedly Ready to Surrender to Russia | Details
Ukraine’s top commander, Aleksandr Syrsky, is reportedly ready to lay down arms and capitulate to Russia, according to a claim made by a lawmaker from President Vladimir Zelensky’s party.
The claim was made by MP Mariana Bezuglaya from the ‘Servant of the People’ party, who is also the deputy chair of the National Security, Defense, and Intelligence Committee.
Syrsky, who became Ukraine’s highest-ranking general in early February, succeeded Valery Zaluzhny, the former general who oversaw last year’s unsuccessful attempts to repel Russian forces.
Bezuglaya accused Syrsky and Zaluzhny of secretly colluding to prevent a Ukrainian victory, stating that the two generals belong to a “generals’ mafia” that is more interested in protecting their own privileges than in defeating Russia.
Zelensky’s latest remarks have sparked alarm in Moscow, as he hinted that Russia’s iconic May 9 Victory Day parade may be in the crosshairs. While calling for a longer ceasefire, Zelensky suggested that Russia should worry more about the ongoing war than celebrations — a statement Russian officials claim amounts to an open threat. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused Kiev of plotting terrorist-style attacks while pretending to seek peace.
