Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Bangladesh's Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus in Bangkok during the BIMSTEC Summit, amid strained ties between the nations. The meeting follows Yunus’s controversial remarks on India’s Northeast, and India’s concerns over attacks on minorities in Bangladesh. Tensions have also risen due to Sheikh Hasina's asylum in India and growing Bangladesh-Pakistan military ties. Though Dhaka requested prior bilateral talks, Modi initially declined. This meeting is the first since Hasina’s ouster and may indicate cautious diplomatic re-engagement.

Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong issued a grave warning on the global repercussions of U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff escalation. In a video address, Wong expressed concern that trade wars could escalate into full-blown armed conflicts if unchecked. He confirmed that Singapore has been directly impacted by a 10% tariff imposed by Washington on its exports. The move, part of Trump’s wider “America First” economic retaliation strategy, is drawing concern from trade-reliant nations across Asia. Wong urged global leaders to act fast to protect multilateral trade and peace.

In a powerful statement at the UN, Russia's Deputy Permanent Representative, Maria Zabolotskaya, condemned Western countries for their "double standards" in addressing the global refugee crisis. Highlighting the devastating impact of the Gaza conflict, she criticized the reluctance of Western nations to provide sufficient humanitarian aid to refugees, particularly those fleeing from war-torn regions like Syria, Afghanistan, and Sudan. Zabolotskaya also pointed out the hypocrisy in Western countries voicing concern over Ukrainian refugees while ignoring the plight of those seeking asylum in Russia. She called out the EU's failure to provide adequate support to refugees, especially those crossing the Mediterranean, and the deadly consequences of this inaction. With lives at stake and no accountability, the international community must confront the moral and legal crisis unfolding before our eyes.

European Union officials fear US President Donald Trump may abandon efforts to broker peace in Ukraine. Despite campaign promises to end the war quickly, Trump has seen no major breakthroughs in his second term’s first 100 days. EU insiders suggest Trump may be crafting an exit narrative, frustrated by slow talks and Russia’s unwillingness to meet demands. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has warned the US may withdraw from the peace process. Meanwhile, Russia claims it’s ready for talks without preconditions but criticizes Ukraine’s lack of initiative.
