Russian President Vladimir Putin has called U.S. President Donald Trump a “courageous man,” saying he once again respects America under Trump’s leadership. During his visit to Belarus, Putin praised Trump for surviving last year’s assassination attempt and credited him with restoring direct U.S.-Russia communications.
Trump emphasized that the wars in Ukraine and Gaza wouldn’t have happened under his presidency. Putin, speaking from Minsk, also said Trump is sincerely trying to broker peace in Ukraine. Since returning to office, Trump has reportedly spoken to Putin five times, reigniting direct channels cut off under Biden. The remarks underscore a dramatic shift in global tone and U.S. diplomacy under Trump’s second term.
