US judge denies new trial for duo in human smuggling case involving death of four Indians

A U.S. District Judge denied new trial requests for Harshkumar Ramanlal Patel and Steve Anthony Shand, convicted in November for their roles in a human smuggling operation that led to the deaths of four Indian migrants in January 2022. The migrants, including a family of four, died from exposure while crossing the Canadian border into Minnesota during a severe storm.
