Trial court not the first stop for investigation, says Supreme Court

IndiaTimes Sunday, 27 July 2025 ()

Before approaching a court, individuals must first seek FIR registration with the jurisdictional police. Magistrates should direct informants to approach the officer-in-charge and then the Superintendent of Police before considering applications under Section 156(3) of the CrPC.
