A long-conjectured malnutrition-related diabetes has been officially recognized as Type 5 at the World Diabetes Congress in Bangkok, 70 years after its initial report. Affecting an estimated 25 million people globally, particularly in impoverished regions, it requires specific tests for diagnosis, differing from Type 2 with no insulin resistance.
