Pahalgam may spell end of medical tourism from Pakistan

In a dramatic and controversial trade move, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a major oil partnership with Pakistan just hours before slapping India with a harsh 25% tariff and an additional penalty. While praising Pakistan’s “massive oil reserves,” Trump hinted that the oil might one day be sold to India—ironically, after penalising New Delhi for its trade practices and energy ties with Russia. Trump accused India of having “obnoxious trade barriers” and being the “largest buyer of Russian energy,” saying these actions were “not good” while Russia continues its war in Ukraine. The stark contrast between Trump rewarding Pakistan and punishing India—one of the U.S.'s strategic partners—has raised eyebrows globally. Critics say Trump is punishing allies and appeasing others for transactional gain, even at the cost of long-term diplomatic trust.
