This byelection is significant as the seat was vacated by Awadhesh Prasad, who won the Faizabad Lok Sabha seat from BJP's Lallu Singh. SP has fielded Awadhesh Prasad's son Ajit Prasad for this reserved constituency with diverse population groups.
