7 cases of HMPV detected; no cause for concern: Nadda
Monday, 6 January 2025 India reported seven cases of human metapneumovirus (HMPV) in children. Union health minister J P Nadda assured that it won't lead to a Covid-like outbreak. HMPV is known since 2001, often self-limiting, and mostly affects children. Surveillance and health systems are actively monitoring the situation.

Rahul Gandhi has once again resorted to Election Fraud Claims to cast doubt on India's electoral system. From raising questions on EVMs to now alleging "match-fixing" in Maharashtra, his narrative of Election Fraud Claims has no evidence. Devendra Fadnavis, Eknath Shinde, and JP Nadda have all slammed these Election Fraud Claims, calling them an insult to the people’s verdict. The Election Commission, too, has dismissed these charges as unfounded and misleading. Repeating Election Fraud Claims after every defeat weakens democracy and insults honest voters. It's time to reject fake narratives and trust the electoral process.

India has crossed 7,000 active COVID-19 cases, with Kerala reporting the highest spike and three new deaths. The XFG variant, a sub-lineage of Omicron with strong immune evasion, has been detected across the country, raising global alarm. Originating in Canada, the variant carries four spike protein mutations. Globally, SARS-CoV-2 activity is rising, especially in South-East Asia and Eastern Mediterranean regions, with test positivity rates matching last year’s peak. WHO continues to monitor the spread amid poor ICU and hospitalization data from heavily affected regions.
