India continues to top in road deaths; Gadkari says he tries to hide face in global meets

Union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari candidly admitted India's failure to reduce road fatalities, with 1,72,289 deaths recorded in 2023, the highest globally. Speaking in Lok sabha, Gadkari acknowledged rising accidents, inadequate progress in road safety goals, and the urgent need for behavioural change. He also highlighted the cashless treatment scheme for crash victims.
