Commuters have shelled out around Rs 2.1 lakh crore as NH toll since 2000: Data

Highway commuters have paid around Rs 2.1 lakh crore in tolls since 2000, a fraction of the Rs 10.2 lakh crore spent on highway development in the past five years. The Union budget allocated Rs 2.7 lakh crore to the road transport ministry for the current year. Most tolls were collected in Uttar Pradesh, while northeastern states contributed none.
