Promptly counter fake news, top officials told

The Indian government is taking steps to combat the spread of fake news and misinformation on social media. The Cabinet Secretariat has directed all secretaries to promptly respond to such news in a factual and articulate manner. The Information and Broadcasting Ministry will prepare guidelines and SOPs to ensure a timely and effective response to fake news and misleading content.
