Government inks Rs 26k cr contract with HAL for procuring 240 Sukhoi jets engines
Monday, 9 September 2024 The defence ministry has finalized a Rs 26,000 crore contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for procuring 240 aero-engines for Sukhoi-30MKI jets. These engines will be produced by HAL's Koraput division and aim to enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Air Force while increasing indigenous content in manufacturing and maintenance.
India has approved its biggest-ever defense deal, worth $7.3 billion, to procure 156 Light Combat Helicopters (LCH) for the Indian Army and Air Force. These helicopters, developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), are equipped to operate in extreme conditions, making them ideal for deployment in sensitive areas like the Siachen glacier and Eastern Ladakh. With advanced features such as the ability to take off and land at altitudes of 5,000 meters, these helicopters will significantly enhance India's military capabilities in the face of regional threats, particularly from China and Pakistan.

An Indian Air Force (IAF) Jaguar fighter jet crashed in Panchkula, Haryana, after taking off from Ambala airbase for a routine training sortie. The pilot ejected safely before the crash, maneuvering the aircraft away from inhabited areas. The IAF confirmed that the crash was caused by a system malfunction. No casualties or injuries have been reported. Authorities have ordered a Court of Inquiry to investigate the incident.
