Murdered teenager's mother calls for school smartphone ban
Tuesday, 2 September 2025 () The mother of murdered teenager Brianna Ghey is calling on the government to introduce a ban on mobile phones in schools - a move she says will not only safeguard children, but also improve their behaviour and engagement in class.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting says the Government is "listening carefully" to Esther Ghey’s call for a legal ban on phones in schools. He praised her campaigning following her daughter Brianna’s murder, saying many schools already ban phones "for good reason" and ministers are reviewing wider online safety measures.
