Russian President Vladimir Putin held a rare and “constructive” phone call with Pope Leo XIV, accusing Ukraine of deliberately escalating the conflict by sabotaging civilian infrastructure inside Russia. Putin referenced recent train bombings in Bryansk and Kursk as acts of terrorism. He also updated the Pontiff on resumed peace talks with Kiev, the exchange of prisoners, and efforts to reunite displaced children. Putin urged the Pope to support religious freedom in Ukraine and thanked the Holy See for its role in mediating humanitarian issues.
