On April 22, 2025, a devastating wildfire erupted in Ocean County, New Jersey, consuming over 15,000 acres of forestland in the Greenwood Forest Wildlife Management Area. The blaze, known as the Jones Road Wildfire, led to the evacuation of approximately 5,000 residents and destroyed multiple structures, including a commercial building. Authorities have charged 19-year-old Joseph Kling of Waretown with arson and aggravated arson for allegedly igniting the fire by setting wooden pallets ablaze and leaving them unattended. Kling was arrested and is currently held in Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
