Bankrupt Birmingham council to sell off athletes' village at over £300m loss
Wednesday, 14 August 2024 Hundreds of homes built for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham are being sold off by the council at a projected loss of more than £300m, in a situation branded "nothing short of a scandal".
Local government minister Jim McMahon visits Birmingham where a strike by refuse collectors continues. McMahon said he holds a “strong view” that a deal to end the strikes can be agreed.
