Two climate protesters aged 82 and 85 attempted to smash parts of the reinforced case holding an original text of the Magna Carta in the British Library in London on Friday (10 May) before the pair were stopped by security staff.
Environmental campaign group Just Stop Oil held their 'final protest' since announcing they will stop direct action, claiming it has won its demand to end new oil and gas.
The group had drawn attention, criticism and jail terms for protests ranging from throwing soup on Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers and spray painting Charles Darwin’s grave to climbing on gantries over the M25.

The protesters received prison sentences of between five years and 15 months in July and August last year for their roles in four demonstrations held by Just Stop Oil between August and November 2022, including climbing on gantries over the M25 and throwing soup over Vincent van Gogh's Sunflowers.
