Department of Government Efficiency: United States government organization
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is an initiative by the second Trump administration tasked with cutting federal spending. It emerged from discussions between Donald Trump and Elon Musk, and was established by an executive order on January 20, 2025. DOGE members have filled influential roles at federal agencies that granted them enough control of information systems to terminate contracts for scientific research, climate change initiatives, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs. DOGE has facilitated mass layoffs and the dismantling of federal agencies. It has also assisted with immigration crackdowns and copied data from classified government databases.
