Kremlin Says No Miracles Expected at Upcoming Russia–Ukraine Talks in Istanbul
Tuesday, 22 July 2025 () The Kremlin has tempered expectations ahead of the upcoming round of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, set to take place in Istanbul on July 24. According to Dmitry Peskov, press secretary to the Russian president, no miraculous breakthroughs should be anticipated. “There’s absolutely no reason to expect any miracles. It’s hardly possible under the current circumstances,” said Peskov, as quoted by TASS. Peskov also noted that making predictions about a timeline for resolving the conflict in Ukraine is not feasible. “I wouldn’t even attempt to estimate potential timeframes for reaching an agreement. Too many factors are at play, and any forecast would be inaccurate,” he explained. Despite the lack of optimism, Peskov said Moscow does not share the skepticism about the utility of talks with the Ukrainian delegation. He stressed that even limited agreements — such as prisoner exchanges or the return of bodies — constitute tangible results.
